Online Classes

Lucy offers online classes through the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy

Lucy Newton offers online classes through the Fenzi Dog Sports academy, where she teaches a series on Tracking.

Foundation Tracking 1 and 2

Part 1 of this class covers everything the handler needs to know to get organized and get started in tracking. We will discuss topics such as equipment preferences, other equipment needed, how to develop a start routine, tracking schedule and initial training goals.

In part 2, we will continue to develop both drive and accuracy on foundation tracks. Our priority for this class will be to further develop the skills that the dog acquired in Tracking part 1.

Tracking Challenges and Distractions

This class will focus solely on an important and critical aspect of tracking: STARTS! A dog can be a fantastic tracker, but if he fails to get off the start, then all that skill is pointless.  In this class, we will work short tracks and concentrate on shaping correct starts.

In addition to working on smooth starts we will take the opportunity to work through challenges and distractions. We will put these close to the beginning of the short tracks we do for the class but they will include many of the distractions or challenges that you may find on a track.

How Do Online Classes Work?

All students receive access to online lectures, videos, and training material. However, each student is able to enroll in the class at one of three levels:

  • Gold Students are active participants in the class. They share videos of their training and receive direct instructor feedback, and suggestions. Each student receives a dedicated forum, and their forum and videos are visible to other students in the class.
  • Silver Students are able to ask questions about the lessons, and participate in the general class forums, however, since they are not allowed to upload video, the instructors can not comment on their specific dog.
  • Bronze Students are “audit level” students. They have access to all materials, however they have no direct communication with the instructor.
